Gobble Gobble...

Better late then never :)

For Thanksgiving Kerri, Mocha, and I went down to Burlington to have a nice turkey dinner. It was an awesome meal and was great to see the family.

The football was brought out and we played a much lazier version of pass then in previous years. I guess we are getting older, that or we are drinking more, which ever the case, the football only managed to last in short increments.

Tim and Steph looked happy, you could tell Tim was ready to jump in the car at any second if need be to drive Steph to the hospital. Should be any day now that she pops, and out comes a little boy or girl. I'm thinking girl again.

As mentioned dinner was awesome! My Mom makes her turkey in advance, she cooks the turkey the day before then carves it up. She then pulls off some voodoo magic with romaine lettuce leaves and a BBQ. It is so moist and doesn't taste at all like lettuce. Plus it means more time for her to hang with her family. All the trimming were there too, Kerri and Oprah potatoes, cheese and broccoli, rice and broccoli, neep, stuffing, you name it! I crammed two plates into my gob and was stuffed. And what do you do when you are so full you feel like you may exploded if poked? Time trials!

The football was brought out after dinner but didn't last long. Ryan, Jessie, Tim and I were out front looking down the street when the question was asked. How far do you think it is to Nanny's? I guessed 100 yards, and then proclaimed that I could run there and back in less then 32 seconds. It seemed do-able, didn't seem that far, and I figure the fastest guy in the world could do it in under 20 seconds, why couldn't I do it in 30? So the mark was set at 32.

The challenge is on, I ran first and make it there and back in 25.2 seconds. I thought I was going to collapse. Running there wasn't an issue it was once you made the turn. I looked up and thought "what the hell am I doing" the run back to Mom's looked like forever away, but I couldn't stop. Half way back my legs were like rubber. I was panting like a dog, then I crossed the finish line. 25.2 seconds.

Tim went next, then Jessie. I was still in the lead by a decent margin. Up stepped Big Red, Ryan who has a bum knee was encouraged not to run. But he wouldn't listen. He took off like a rocket! The years of Petrie football rushed back to him as he made the turn and headed back to the finish line, his eyes were glued to that line, determined and confident he crossed the line in under 25 seconds. 24.9! His arm was raised (cautiously of course, bum shoulder and all) and the coughing and hacking ensued.

There was a moment (during the coughing) that I thought "wow he got me", but what fun would it be if I didn't try to beat him. So I set up again to race, again thinking "what am I doing!?". The second time racing was not any easier, alas, 24.6 seconds is the new Annual Thanksgiving Day Family Sprint record!

We arrived inside after the event to some Nanny apple pie :) There is always room for pie...

Check out the video below, if only I had some Alf theme music playing.
